As a corporate event designer, it was an immense privilege to orchestrate the decor for the Jack & Jill of America Inc., Mid Atlantic Region’s Mother’s Conference in Richmond, VA. The historical significance and the noble mission of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., founded by the visionary, The Late Marion Stubbs Thomas on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Starting with twenty mothers united by a shared vision to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for their African American youth, Jack & Jill has evolved into a distinguished African American organization, representing over 50,000 families across the United States. Their dedication to leadership training, cultural activities, civic engagement, philanthropic giving, and volunteer services mirrors their commitment to excellence and meaningful design.
The Saturday evening gala during the second day of the three-day conference in May 2023, held in Richmond, VA at the Westin Hotel, was not just an event; it was a celebration of the rich heritage and impactful mission of Jack & Jill of America. Drawing inspiration from the organization’s focus on cultural enrichment and community engagement, the Richmon Chapter chose a Parisian Garden theme that resonated with themes of growth, beauty, and elegance. The vibrant hues of pink and fuchsia set a tone of warmth and celebration, while the meticulously chosen floral arrangements and thematic decor elements like the tall candelabras and miniature Eiffel Tower centerpieces highlighted the sophistication and elegance inherent in Jack & Jill’s legacy.
The inclusion of a tall, lighted Eiffel Tower, adorned with balloons in thematic shades of pink and touches of gold, served as a magnificent focal point. This striking feature not only enhanced the visual appeal but also symbolized the elegance, romance, and aspirational values that Jack & Jill embodies. The gold accents intertwined with the pink balloons added a layer of luxury and sophistication, enriching the atmospheric charm and encapsulating the essence of our design vision.
The evening was further elevated by the soulful performance of Kenny Lattimore, whose smooth R&B melodies perfectly complemented the luxurious and refined ambiance of the gala. His presence and performance were more than entertainment; they were an integral part of the experience that resonated deeply with the attendees, aligning seamlessly with the evening’s elegant and emotionally rich theme.
Designing the decor for this gala was not just an assignment; it was an honor to contribute to an event that celebrated the enduring legacy and values of Jack & Jill of America. We aimed to create an atmosphere that was not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful, reflecting the organization’s commitment to nurturing future leaders and fostering a sense of community and cultural pride.
